FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
=======================

1. How do I set the system clock/time?
Select 'dashboard', click on settings, then clock, and set the correct year. If the year says 8907 this will cause many games to not work.

2. Why do my MAME games not work?
Your system clock/time needs to be set, see question 1 on how to do this.

3. My MAME games say there is a problem. How do I press 'OK' to continue?
Press 'left' then 'right' on your controller DPAD arrows.

4. Why is my volume low for movies and music?
Use the right thumbstick to adjust the volume up or down.

5. Why don't all my games show up?
If a lot of Xbox games have been deleted or renamed, the games database may become corrupt. To fix this, click on Files, then XBMC Storage, highlight the 'MyPrograms.db' file and press the yellow button 'Y' to mark this file. Press the 'white' button and choose delete, now your Games will be displayed correctly.

6. Why can't I find my DVD's after I back them up?
You must use the Dvd2Xbox program in the Games/Programs section, and not the Backup Games icon. Choose the 'F:\Movies' directory to put dvds in the correct place. If you copy DVD's to the F:\Games folder you will not be able to find them.

7. Why don't my backup CD/DVD's work?
The Xbox FATx file system cannot handle filenames longer than 42 characters, or filenames with symbols like : $ # etc. If you want to play your MP3's or DivX movies, keep the filenames short and simple. Try using different brands of CD-R or DVD-R discs, some Xbox DVD-ROMS will not read any copied media, only original discs.

8. I've changed so many settings I'm lost, what do I do?
Three steps to solve most problems:

  • Set the clock (see question 1)
  • Restore the default Xbox settings, to do this go to Games, Programs, click on Fix & Configure. Click the top menu option 'Restore default Xbox settings' and choose yes. Reboot the Xbox.
  • Delete the myprograms.db database file (see question 7)

9. Why won't my Xbox read some types of CD's?
Xboxes come from the factory with 3 different types of CD ROM Drives. Some of these drives won't play CD-R (writeable) or CD-RW (Rewriteable) PC "Burnt" media.

  • Samsung ROM will play all types of media including CD-R.
  • Phillips ROM will usually play CD-RW media and has been known to read CD-R on occasion.
  • Thompson ROM is a good drive but it won't read CD-R, has been known to read CD-RW but rarely and is probably the best drive for reading DVD media.

10. What is Xbox Live?
Xbox Live is an online gaming platform provided and supported by Microsoft where you can play against other users. It requires a Broadband cable or ASDL connection of at least 512/256 kBps. Subscription costs $80 per year, and you can only access the service with an Xbox which has not been upgraded and using original game disks. If you want a cheaper option, consider Xlink Kai or XBConnect.

11. How do I connect my Xbox to my PC, LAN, or another Xbox?
Your Xbox has a standard 100MBps ethernet port, and is normally configured to have an IP address of 192.168.0.3 You will either need a crossover cable or a standard cable and hub/router, and you may need to change this IP address on your Xbox.

12. What is a 'Dashboard'?
'Dashboard' or 'dash' is a generic term for the menu/utility program that executes when a game disk is not inserted. You have possibly used the Microsoft dash to rip music and manage your saved games.

14. What is SystemLink?
SystemLink games are ones where you can have more than one Xbox in on the action. Just hook up the Xbox's using a crossover cable (or a hub/switch if you have more than two Xbox's) and make sure all the IP addresses are different, and you are away.

You can play SystemLink games with all Xbox consoles regardless of whether they have been upgraded or not.

15. Where can I buy/obtain/download pirated games or movies?
I don't know. Please don't ask. Piracy is illegal. Please support the gaming and movie industries and purchase games and movies you enjoy.
